Please join us for an intimate conversation exploring Japanwala’s creative process and the themes ingrained in her exhibition, Sarsabzi.
Titled after the Urdu word Sarsabzi, meaning “lushness” or “verdancy,” the exhibition reflects Japanwala’s ongoing engagement with the body as a site of abundance, resilience, and transformation.
Through sculptural works rooted in direct body casting, Japanwala foregrounds forms and textures often marginalized or erased, reframing them as vital records of lived experience. Her practice challenges dominant ideals of beauty by celebrating folds, marks, and contours as expressions of autonomy, care, and collective presence. In this conversation, Traore and Japanwala will explore the conceptual and material foundations of the work, the collaborative nature of Japanwala’s process, and the broader cultural and political questions raised by Sarsabzi within contemporary conversations on visibility, representation, and the body. |
